Tanzania truck drivers continue paying visa as talks to waive it are still on

LUBUMBASHI, DRC: VISA fees for Tanzanian truck drivers entering the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will continue to be paid, despite the DRC’s announcement to waive visa fees for Tanzanians entering the country.

Both parties have been urged to continue negotiations to find a solution to remove these fees.

This statement was made by the Director-General of the DRC Immigration Department, Roland Kashantwale, during a meeting with the Tanzanian Ambassador to DRC, Said Mshana, and the DRC Ambassador to Tanzania, Jean Pierre Masalla. The discussions aimed to clarify DRC’s announcement regarding visa fees for Tanzanians.

Kashantwale stated that the new arrangement would not benefit Tanzanian truck drivers, as they will continue to be charged a work transit visa fee of 50 US dollars for a 30-day stay.

Furthermore, the Director-General emphasized the importance of both countries continuing discussions to reach an agreement on eliminating the work visa fees. Until such an agreement is reached, the fees will continue to be paid by truck drivers entering the DRC.
