Tanzania Tea Board calls for stronger agribusiness systems that add value to agricultural products
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Director General of the Tanzania Tea Board, Beatrice J. Banzi, has called on stakeholders in the agricultural sector to build strong and sustainable agribusiness systems to increase productivity, add value to agricultural products, and enhance Tanzania’s and Africa’s competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
Banzi made the call on September 2, 2026, while presenting a paper at the 10th Africa Agri Expo 2026, held from September 2–3, 2026, at the Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
She said building a strong agribusiness sector requires investment in technology and innovation, as well as strengthening agricultural processing and value addition. She also emphasized the importance of collaboration among farmers, traders, investors, the Government and other stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
Speaking about the tea industry, Banzi said Tanzania has significant potential to enhance the competitiveness of its tea in both domestic and international markets by increasing production and productivity, improving quality, strengthening processing and value addition, and exploring new markets.
According to Banzi, business platforms such as the Africa Agri Expo play an important role in developing the agricultural sector by providing stakeholders with opportunities to build business networks, attract investment, exchange technology and innovation, and identify new markets for agricultural products.
The participation of the Tanzania Tea Board in the expo is part of ongoing efforts to promote the country’s tea industry while showcasing business and investment opportunities across the tea value chain.
These efforts are expected to contribute to increasing the value of Tanzanian tea, strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s tea products, and expanding economic opportunities for stakeholders involved throughout the tea value chain.
