Tanzania targets SADC markets at FACIM

MAPUTO: TANZANIA is using the 61st Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM) in Mozambique to expand export markets, attract investment and strengthen business partnerships across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The country’s participation in the fair, scheduled from August 31 to September 6 at the Ricatla International Trade Fairgrounds in Marracuene, Maputo Province, brings together public institutions and private companies under the unified Made in Tanzania campaign aimed at increasing regional market access.
In a statement, Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Mr Hamad Khamis, said the fair provides an important opportunity to connect Tanzanian businesses with investors, distributors and strategic partners across the SADC region.
“The fair offers an important platform to connect Tanzanian businesses with investors, distributors and strategic partners across the SADC region,” Mr Khamis said.
He said the Tanzania Pavilion will showcase products and services from agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, coffee and tea, digital technology, renewable energy, fashion, handicrafts and small and medium-sized enterprises, reflecting the country’s growing emphasis on value addition and innovation.
The exhibition will also feature Tanzanian technology companies demonstrating artificial intelligence, Internet of Things applications, smart metering and digital infrastructure solutions, highlighting the country’s expanding technology sector and its growing role in providing digital solutions within the region.
As part of the programme, the High Commission in collaboration with the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), will host Tanzania Day, a special event designed to promote investment opportunities, tourism, business networking and cultural exchange with Mozambican and regional partners.
The event is expected to facilitate direct engagement between Tanzanian entrepreneurs, government institutions and potential investors from Mozambique and other participating countries while reinforcing the longstanding economic ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Mr Khamis said the initiative reflects the country’s broader economic diplomacy agenda of promoting intra-African trade, expanding market access and building sustainable regional value chains through stronger privatesector cooperation.
Meanwhile, Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Trade, Mr António Grispos, said preparations for the international fair had reached the final stage, with the exhibition grounds now 95 per cent ready ahead of Monday’s opening.
Speaking while inspecting the installation of infrastructure for exhibitors and other participants at the Ricatla fairgrounds on Friday, Mr Grispos said the remaining work includes painting and installing toilets, with all preparations expected to be completed before the event opens.

“In terms of the work, we only have basic things left, such as painting and installing toilets, and we believe that by Saturday we will have completed the activities 100 per cent, and on Sunday we will check that everything is in perfect condition to ensure the safety of visitors and exhibitors,” Mr Grispos said.
He said the preparations were being carried out in line with President Daniel Chapo’s directives to ensure there would be no last-minute works or infrastructure adjustments during the six-day trade fair
