DAR ES SALAAM: Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has affirmed that the government will continue to support the mining sector to ensure its rapid growth and effective contribution to the country’s economy.
The Prime Minister made these remarks in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday while officiating the 6th International Mining Conference. The Premier represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the three-day event.
“The government has strengthened this sector by increasing electricity generation capacity, improving transportation infrastructure—particularly roads for the transport of minerals—and increasing the number of aircraft to support the sector, as mining is a key driver of the country’s economic growth,” he stated.
Mr Majaliwa noted that the conference aims to showcase environmentally friendly mining technologies to attract foreign investment and foster growth in the mining sector.
However, he emphasized that the country has not yet fully benefited from mineral extraction, as value addition processes are predominantly carried out abroad.
He pointed out that the government is losing out on significant revenues from the value chain that could be generated if these processes were conducted locally. Recognizing the economic and social benefits of domestic value addition, the government is actively working to create an enabling environment.

The Prime Minister also announced that the government will continue to allocate sufficient budgets to acquire more drilling machinery domestically.
He urged miners to build trust in the government and invest in the sector to benefit from these developments.
The event provides a platform for exchanging ideas, improving the management of mineral resources for national benefit, creating job opportunities, and enhancing the welfare of communities in mining areas.
Additionally, the conference seeks to strengthen cooperation between governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders.
