Tanzania spent 254.8bn/- for local government polls

DODOMA: THE President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) has announced that 254.82bn/- was spent to coordinate and supervise the 2024 Local Government Elections.

 This was revealed by the Minister of State in the President’s Office – TAMISEMI, Hon. Mohamed Mchengerwa, while presenting the ministry’s budget speech for the 2025/2026 financial year to Parliament in Dodoma.

Minister Mchengerwa explained that out of the total amount, 247.03 billion was provided by the Central Government to ensure effective preparation and execution of the elections.

 Additionally, various local government authorities contributed 7.78bn/- from their internal revenues, demonstrating their participation in this vital democratic exercise.

The election focused on filling leadership positions at the grassroots level, including village, street, and hamlet chairpersons, as well as members of village councils and street committees. This provided an opportunity for citizens to elect local leaders who are directly responsible for overseeing development in their communities.

Through this initiative, TAMISEMI has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the foundations of good governance and promoting citizen participation in local development decision-making. The successful coordination of the elections also reflected strong collaboration between the Central and Local Governments in ensuring the practical realization of democratic rights.
