Tanzania, Somalia explore ways to bolster their longstanding relations in key development sectors

MOMBASA: ZANZIBAR President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has met with Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jama, to discuss ways of further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations and cooperation between Tanzania and Somalia across various development sectors.

During the talks held today on June 18, 2026, in Mombasa, Kenya, the two leaders explored opportunities for collaboration in the Blue Economy, emphasizing the importance of the sustainable use of marine resources to promote economic growth and improve the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.

Dr Mwinyi and Jama also exchanged views on their respective countries’ experiences in the management and utilization of marine resources, noting that enhanced cooperation could strengthen efforts to protect marine ecosystems while increasing the economic benefits derived from the sector.

For his part, Jama reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening its historic ties with Tanzania through cooperation in the Blue Economy, education, and trade.
