Tanzania sinks 34.8bn/- to boost efficiency of its Police force

DODOMA: The Tanzania Police Force has received 34.78bn/- for the procurement of 275 vehicles that will be used by regional criminal investigation officers, commanders of the Field Force Unit, and district criminal investigation officers.
The aim of this initiative is to enhance service delivery to the Tanzanian citizens and improve the operational efficiency of the police force. Procurement procedures are currently underway.
The Minister for Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, made the announcement today, May 26, 2025, while presenting his ministry’s budget for the 2025/2026 financial year in Parliament in Dodoma. He stated that the vehicles are expected to be received by the end of June this year.
For the 2025/2026 fiscal year, a total of 194.95bn/- has been allocated for the acquisition of various working tools and equipment for the Police Force. This allocation is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and the operational capacity of national security institutions.

Additionally, Minister Bashungwa noted that the 275 vehicles will supplement another 218 vehicles received between March and April this year. Those vehicles were distributed to commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional and unit police commanders, as well as district police heads and specialized units within police stations.
In a related development, the minister announced that the ongoing construction and renovation of 31 police stations is costing 5.52bn/- .
This project is intended to improve working environments for police officers and enhance efficiency in the provision of security services.
Due to this significant government investment in the Police Force, Minister Bashungwa reassured citizens, urging them to remain confident in the government’s continued commitment to protecting the safety of people and their property across the country.
