DODOMA: WITH over 1.3/- trillion injected to improve healthcare services, nurses, midwives, and healthcare providers have been urged to provide quality services to Tanzanians.
The amount is a substantial investment in the four-year tenure of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in the health sector.
The Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Dr. Festo Dugange, said the government has invested 1.3tri/- in the primary healthcare sector over the past four years. This investment includes the construction and renovation of healthcare facilities.
Speaking in Dodoma during the official opening of the Annual Meeting of Nurse Leaders, Dr. Dugange called on nurses and midwives to enhance the supervision of quality service delivery to the public.
“I direct Nurse Leaders at all levels to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and equitably. We acknowledge the great work being done by nurses, but there are a few individuals who tarnish the reputation of this profession by making avoidable mistakes,” he said.

For her part, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Grace Magembe, commended nurses for their contribution to combating epidemic diseases, particularly the Marburg virus.
“Approximately 60 percent of all healthcare professionals are nurses and midwives, performing about 80 percent of all healthcare duties. The health sector cannot improve without skilled, competent, and knowledgeable professionals like you,” said Dr. Magembe.
Meanwhile, the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ziada Sellah, expressed gratitude to the government for improving working conditions for nurses and midwives, noting that the sector has significantly advanced compared to ten years ago.
