Tanzania shifts focus to delivery of tangible projects from paper development plans
GEITA: THE Tanzanian government is shifting its focus from development plans on paper to the delivery of tangible projects, as it accelerates infrastructure investment to improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth, Minerals Minister Anthony Mavunde has said.
Speaking during a public rally in Lugunga Village, Mbogwe District, Geita Region, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Mr Mavunde said the approach reflects President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive that development must be measured by implementation and visible results.
As part of his development tour, the minister inaugurated a clean and safe water project worth more than 2.5bn/- in Ushirika Village.
The project, which has a storage capacity of 150,000 litres, is expected to provide reliable water services to more than 21,000 residents in six villages across Mbogwe District.
Additionally, the Minister Mavunde said the government has largely completed the expansion of key infrastructure linking regions and districts and is now prioritising the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to boost economic activities and improve access to social services.
He said the government plans to finance the construction of 102 kilometres of roads across various parts of Geita Region.
“As the Development Patron for Geita Region, I will continue working with the government to ensure street lights are installed in Mbogwe to enhance security and improve the business environment,” he said.

During the meeting, the minister also educated residents on the Mining Act, stressing that every Tanzanian has the right to own a mining licence provided they comply with the legal requirements.
He emphasised that licence holders are prohibited from conducting mining activities on another person’s land without reaching an agreement with the landowner.
Responding to questions from residents, Mr Mavunde said the government is continuing to extend electricity to mining areas and other productive zones to increase efficiency and attract more investment.
He also inaugurated a new students’ dormitory at Nyakasaluma Secondary School, saying the facility will improve the learning environment and contribute to better academic performance.
Geita Regional Commissioner Martin Shigella commended Mr Mavunde for closely monitoring development projects and addressing challenges facing the mining sector since being appointed Development Patron for the region.
Mr Shigella also praised President Samia for spearheading development projects that have addressed key challenges facing residents across Geita Region.
