Tanzania sets aside 12.16bn/- for fast-tracking ICT transformation

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has set aside a total of 12.16bn/- for the 2026/2027 financial year to accelerate the implementation of the Tanzania Digital Project, in a major push aimed at fast-tracking ICT transformation and expanding the country’s digital economy.

Tabling the budget in Parliament in Dodoma today, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology Angellah Kairuki said the funds will support key strategic projects designed to reshape Tanzania’s technology landscape.

She said priority areas include the construction of the National Digital Technology Institute and an Innovation Hub, both expected to serve as anchor institutions for skills development, research, and innovation.

Additionally, the minister said that the government will also establish five zonal technology centres to widen access to digital opportunities across the country, alongside the procurement and distribution of ICT equipment to strengthen service delivery.

“Efforts will focus on improving the national addressing system infrastructure to enhance efficiency in social and economic service delivery,” she said.

Furthermore, Minister Kairuki announced plans to establish 32 One-Stop Service Centres aimed at improving access to government services through digital platforms, while the national ICT data management system known as the Jamii Data Lake is expected to be completed and launched.

She said the ministry will also continue coordinating the implementation of the National Digital Economy Strategy 2024–2034, which seeks to position Tanzania as a regional hub for innovation and technology.
