Tanzania sends 4 conjoined twins to Saudi Arabia for separation  

DAR ES SALAAM: THE  Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr John Jingu, has sent off four conjoined children going to Saudi Arabia for a separation operation.

The minister attended the sendoff ceremony held in Dar es Salaam on behalf of the government to wish the conjoined twins who are travelling to Saudi Arabia for separation surgery safe journey and successful surgery.

The twins Nancy and Nice Magori, aged one year and five months, together with Lightness and Loveness Mwalu, aged one year and four months, are scheduled to undergo separation surgery at King Abdul Aziz Hospital, fully funded by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the farewell ceremony, the Permanent Secretary thanked the Saudi government for its contribution to strengthening healthcare services in Tanzania while requesting that Saudi Arabia invest in modern technologies for separating conjoined twins in the country, a move that would enable Tanzania to assist other countries facing similar challenges.

He further commended Muhimbili National Hospital for the excellent preliminary healthcare and treatment provided to the children.

Earlier, the Director of Surgery at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dr Rachel Mhaville, thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating approximately 70m/- to cover the twins’ specialized high-level medical treatment, food, accommodation, and other essential needs.

For his part, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Tanzania, Yahya bin Ahmed Okeish, expressed his country’s commitment to continue enhancing cooperation with Tanzania in various sectors, including healthcare, to save lives and improve the well-being of citizens.
