Tanzania sees good progress in the construction of 201 new towers for 263 villages, 201 wards
DODOMA: THE Minister of Information, Communications and Information Technology, Angellah Kairuki, has stated that despite the completion of the construction of 758 communication towers and the upgrading of 304 existing towers, the government continues to implement additional projects to ensure reliable communication services across the country.
She said one of the ongoing initiatives is the construction of 201 new communication towers, which will be installed across approximately 263 villages and 201 wards, and is expected to be completed by March 2027.

According to her, completion of this project will benefit around 2.8 million citizens, as part of the government’s broader efforts to improve nationwide access to communication services.
Kairuki made the remarks on April 10, 2026, at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma, during a ceremony marking the launch of 758 communication towers, fibre optic backbone connections across 85 districts, and the official handover of the national fibre optic backbone infrastructure to the government.
