Tanzania seeks to sort out tax challenges to improve the business environment

DAR ES SALAAM: The Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office, Planning and Investment, Dr. Tausi Kida, has convened a special working session involving the Expert Task Force responsible for preparing the Second Phase of the Business and Investment Climate Reform Program (MKUMBI II) and the Presidential Commission on Tax Reforms.

The meeting that took place in Dar es Salaam was aimed at exchanging experiences and discussing strategies for improving the business environment in Tanzania.

Speaking during the session, Dr. Kida said the meeting was organized to strengthen collaboration between these two key institutions, which play a vital role in shaping the country’s economic development.

 She emphasized that the main objective was to explore effective approaches to engaging with the private sector in addressing both tax-related and non-tax-related challenges, to ensure that Tanzania provides a more enabling business and investment environment along with a robust taxation system.

The meeting was attended by top leaders, including the Chairperson of the Presidential Commission on Tax Reforms, former Chief Secretary Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, along with other members of the Commission.

Professor Faustine Kamuzora, Chairperson of the MKUMBI II Expert Task Force, was also present.

This meeting is part of the ongoing government’s efforts to ensure that plans to improve the business climate and tax systems are implemented through inclusive engagement with all key stakeholders, aiming to attract investment and drive national economic growth.
