Tanzania seeks to market its mineral wealth at SA’s Mining Indaba

DODOMA: TANZANIA seeks to strengthen its strategic position in the international Mining Sector following its participation in the International Mining Indaba 2026 Conference, expected to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from February 8 to 12, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Minerals, the Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, is expected to lead the Tanzanian Delegation at the conference that will bring together Government leaders, Investors, large mining companies, and financial institutions from various countries around the world, and other stakeholders.
The statement stated that Tanzania’s participation in the Mining Indaba 2026 conference is part of the National Strategy to position itself as an important partner in the international mining production chain, especially at a time when the African continent, including Tanzania, continues to be recognized as an important axis for the production of minerals needed for clean energy and industrial development in the world.
At the meeting, Mavunde is expected to participate in the Minerals Ministerial Conference hosted by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum of the Republic of South Africa, Gwede Mantashe, as well as participate in high-level discussions that will bring together ministers of minerals, CEOs of major global mining companies, investors, and financial institutions.
“The discussions will focus on policy innovation, strategies for the development of the mining sector, improving the investment climate, capital mobilization, as well as opportunities in key minerals and strategic minerals in Africa,” the statement said.
In addition, the Minister of Minerals is expected to hold strategic meetings and side sessions with key stakeholders, including investors from the United States, the European Union, and other countries, to attract new investments, strengthen cooperation with existing investors, and build business relationships.
The statement stated that stakeholders who will accompany Mavunde are expected to participate in various forums with international stakeholders with the aim of finding business partners, exchanging experiences, and promoting themselves in international markets.
The Tanzanian delegation at the meeting will include experts from the Ministry of Minerals and its institutions.
Through the forum, Tanzania expects to announce various investment opportunities available in the country while emphasizing the government’s commitment to adding value to minerals within the country and ensuring that the mining sector contributes fully to economic growth, job creation, and the development of its citizens.
The Mining Indaba 2026 conference will be guided by the theme “We Are Strong: Development Through Partnership”, which aims to strengthen partnerships between the government, the private sector, and development institutions in building a sustainable, competitive, and productive mining sector for Africa’s development.
