Tanzania secures 85 nominations in 41 categories of the World Travel Awards

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has secured over 85 nominations across more than 41 categories in the 2026 Africa and Indian Ocean edition of the prestigious World Travel Awards, cementing its growing status as a leading global tourism destination.

According to a statement issued by the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) on Wednesday, the nominations cut across key areas including tourism attractions, conservation, transport, hospitality, infrastructure and destination marketing, drawing participants from both public and private sectors.

Additionally, TTB stated that the announcement marks a major milestone for the country’s tourism industry, with Tanzania dominating the category of Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction after securing seven out of 14 nominations across the continent.

For the first time, attractions managed by the Tanzania Wildlife Authority and the Tanzania Forest Services Agency have been recognised in the global awards, highlighting expanding excellence in conservation and tourism management.

“These nominations reflect our shared dedication to conservation, service excellence and destination promotion. Together, we continue to position Tanzania as a world-class tourism destination,” the statement said.

Voting for the awards opened on March 30 and will run until July 17, 2026, with stakeholders and the public urged to support Tanzania in the global contest.
