Tanzania reaps gains from Africa Summit, signs MoUs to advance Smallholder Dairy Project

NAIROBI: TANZANIA has continued to benefit from its participation in the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Agence Française de Développement to jointly finance the Climate-Smart Smallholder Dairy Transformation Project in Tanzania.

The project aims to increase productivity in dairy farming, strengthen the sector’s value chain, promote the use of modern technologies, and enhance climate resilience among smallholder farmers in the country.

During the signing ceremony, which brought together IFAD President Alvaro Lario and AFD Chief Executive Officer Christophe Lecourtier, Tanzania was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Gerald Geofrey Mweli, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Aristides Mbwasi, External Finance Commissioner in the Ministry of Finance, Rished Bade, representing the Treasury Permanent Secretary, as well as Tanzania’s Ambassador to France, Saidi Yakubu.

The development has been described as part of the positive outcomes of Tanzania’s participation in the summit under the leadership of Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba, who represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Through its participation, Tanzania continues to strengthen strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating agricultural development, improving food security, attracting investment, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
