Tanzania prioritises sustainable resource use
DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA will mark World Consumer Rights Day alongside other nations, with a focus on promoting the sustainable use of resources.
The event aims to foster dialogue between consumers, service providers and development stakeholders.
This year’s event will take place on March 15th in Morogoro Region, under the theme “Rights and Sustainable Life for Consumers.”
Speaking during a press conference, Chairman of the Tanzania Consumer Forum (TCF), Mr Daud Daudi said that the celebrations would offer citizens an opportunity to learn about their consumer rights and how to access safe services.
“This year’s theme highlights the importance of the sustainable use of resources, which is crucial for the country’s development,” he said.
Mr Daudi explained that World Consumer Rights Day is globally focused on protecting consumer rights and encouraging the responsible use of services.
He noted that the event would serve as an important opportunity for the public to receive education about their rights and urged the government and sector stakeholders to ensure that quality and fair services are accessible to all.
“Consumers should have the power to make informed decisions and access safe, affordable and sustainable services. Everyone has the right to live in a community that is committed to protecting the environment and resources for future generations,” Mr Daudi said.

During the celebrations, TCF will focus on the safe use of services in the energy, communications and transport sectors, both air and land. Mr Daudi also noted the government’s goal of ensuring that 80 per cent of Tanzanians will be using clean cooking energy by 2034.
“We cannot afford to fall behind on these changes. The use of clean energy benefits not only today’s generation but also contributes to the health and well-being of future generations,” he added.
In the communications sector, Mr Daudi said that online consumer safety would be a key agenda this year. He explained that TCF would advocate for privacy protection and the safe use of digital services.
He said the safety of services in both air and land transport will be addressed to ensure consumers receive quality services.
“The digital world continues to grow, but progress cannot happen without security. Consumers must be assured that their data is protected,” he said.
Mr Daudi also called on the media to collaborate in spreading consumer education throughout the country.
“By promoting sustainable usage today, we are laying the foundation for a better future for our society. Collective responsibility is a tool for fostering sustainable development,” he concluded.
The event is being organised by the Tanzania Consumer Forum (TCF), in collaboration with consumer advocacy councils for regulated services, including LATRA-CCC, TCAA-CCC, EWURA-CCC and TCRA-CCC and in partnership with The Foundation for Civil Society (FCS).
