Tanzania plans to establish modern war college
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Jacob Mkunda has said plans for establishment of an international War College in the country are underway.
Speaking during the 10th anniversary of the National Defence College (NDC) held at the College Premises in Dar es Salaam, CDF Mkunda said the college will only focus on providing war training to officers.
“Along with the general defence and security training, the war course is very important to equip these senior officers to have a broad understanding of military issues in general and the relationship between war and politics as well. Is the only place where war will be taught,” General Mkunda insisted.
He said the country is currently being forced to send its officers to other countries such as America and Egypt for the acquisition of war training.
“Currently, we have a training college which is similar to it but it is only for local purposes, it teaches our own staffs and we can’t invite someone from outside for even a day. It provides war training but is not recognized internationally,” he added.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan who doubles as the Commander-In-Chief of Armed Forces was the guest of honor at the well-attended and colorful event.
Earlier, former President Jakaya Kikwete said Former President Jakaya Kikwete has said one of factors that can affect the country’s peace and security includes limiting people’s freedom.
The retired Head of State, who led the country from 2005 to 2015, said this at the 10th anniversary of the National Defence College (NDC) in Kunduchi, Dar es Salaam on Thursday morning and suggested policies should be made not to discriminate against people as far as freedom is concerned.
“The country’s security involves a lot of things, TPDF is responsible for protecting our borders, we have the Intelligence Services…Policies that isolate and deprive people of their freedom create environments for the country to not be secured,” Kikwete said.
Moreover, the Rtd President said the national security is subject to the to a good relationship with other countries globally and suggested:
“You [officers] must do everything possible to make all the countries in the world your friends.
“When you’re assured security, sometimes, you don’t even have to bother buying heavy arms because you have nobody to fight against since there is no threat from outside,” Mr Kikwete added.
