Tanzania pays homage to Pope Francis in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has signed the book of condolences at the Embassy of the Vatican in Tanzania, located in Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam, following the death of the Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

Pope Francis, who served as the leader of the Catholic Church for 12 years, passed away on April 21, 2025, at his residence in the Vatican City due to a stroke. Minister Kombo signed the condolence book on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Speaking after signing the book, Ambassador Kombo expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, stating that the Pope would be remembered worldwide for his outstanding efforts in defending human rights, promoting peace, advancing human development, and improving social welfare.

On his part, the Vatican Ambassador to Tanzania, Archbishop Angelo Accattino, extended his gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and all Tanzanians for their messages of sympathy and comfort. He called on Tanzanians and other nations to maintain calm and unity during this period of mourning, while praying for the late Holy Father Pope Francis to rest in eternal peace.
