Tanzania: Optimism high as King Charles III crowned at coronation

President Samia suluhu Hassan congratulates his Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camila on their coronation as she expresses her optimism on stronger historical Tanzania-UK bilateral ties.
The Head of State conveyed her congratulatory message through her officials Twitter handle on Saturday after the well attended event which took place on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London.
“Heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla on your #Coronation . May your reign be filled with peace, stability and prosperity. I am looking forward to taking the strong and historical Tanzania-UK bilateral ties to greater heights,” she tweeted.
King Charles III was crowned on Saturday afternoon during a majestic and deeply religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.
He was honored alongside his wife, Queen Camilla.
Members of the royal family and world leaders were in attendance for the two-hour service, after a procession from Buckingham Palace through the streets of the British capital kicked off the festivities.
Several heads of African states, mostly from Commonwealth countries also arrived in London for King Charles’s coronation including Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, King Mswati III of Eswatini and Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi.
Others who attended were Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, Liberia’s George Weah and President Emmerson Mnangagwa who becomes the first Zimbabwean leader to visit London in over two decades after the UK imposed sanctions on the southern African state.
