Tanzania, Nigeria share spoils
TANZANIA: TANZANIA’s cricket team was set to play their opening match against Nigeria in the 13th All Africa Games in Ghana, but due to heavy rains, the match couldn’t take place.
As per the rules, no results were counted, and only points were shared on Day One of the tournament.
The match was supposed to be held at ACO Achimota Oval, but the weather didn’t allow it. However, the local women’s team played against their South African counterparts at the same venue on Friday. Tanzania’s next match will be on Sunday against Namibia.
The team’s captain, Newman Justine, is hopeful the team will record good performance against their tough opponents.
She said, “We are thrilled to win points and move forward with other fixtures of the tournament.” The team is highly motivated after their recent invitational T20 Tour of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) congratuated Adil Kassam, the head of umpires in the country for officiating a match between Namibia Women and South Africa Women at the 13th African Games.
TCA is proud of Adil’s recent achievements and his dedication to promoting fair play and sportsmanship on the field. The country’s governing cricket body added in a statement that his contributions to the sport are commendable.
“We look forward to witnessing your continued success in the future,” the statement continued.
