Tanzania names Ministry of Education, Science and Technology priorities in 2026/27 budget

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has prioritised the implementation of the new Education Policy, expansion of technical training and increased use of technology in learning as part of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s budget priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Presenting the ministry’s budget estimates in Parliament in Dodoma on May 7, 2026, the Minister for  Education, Science and Technology Professor Adolf Mkenda said the priorities are aimed at improving the quality of education, strengthening skills development and enhancing knowledge to meet the demands of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.

Professor Mkenda said the ministry will continue investing heavily in preparations for compulsory 10-year education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, as well as the promotion of science, technology and innovation.

He added that the ministry will also focus on implementing education policies and curricula reforms, reviewing laws and guidelines, and providing training programmes across the country.

Other priorities include expanding access to and improving the quality of vocational training in secondary schools and colleges, strengthening early childhood, primary, secondary and teacher education, widening opportunities in higher education and boosting the country’s research and innovation capacity to support industrial economic growth.
