Tanzania mourns the tragic death of the Water Ministry’s staff and his family

MUSOMA: THE Ministry of Water has mourned the death of one of its employees, the Head of the Water Quality Laboratory in Mara Region, Rochi Mkolekuwa (39), who died from a fire accident that claimed his life and that of his wife, Mariam Msigwa (34), and their four-year-old child..

Information about the death was announced by the Minister for Water, Jumaa Aweso, earlier today, December 5, 2025,  noting that investigative procedures into the incident are being conducted by relevant authorities.

Moreover, the minister pledged to work closely with the family and relatives of the deceased regarding the sudden tragedy.

On his part, the Acting Mara Regional Commander of the Fire and Rescue Force, Agostino Magere, confirmed the incident, saying the cause of the fire has not yet been established and that investigations have already begun.

Elaborating on the incident, Mr Magere stated that they received a report of the incident at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, and upon arriving at the house where the family lived, they found it completely burnt down with the victims inside.

According to Mr Magere, the report was delayed, and when they arrived, they found that they had already died.

“The father’s body was found in the living room, while the bodies of the mother and child were found in the bedroom. We have begun investigations in collaboration with other relevant authorities,” he said.
