Tanzania men’s team off to Malawi for cricket challenge
DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’s Men’s National Cricket Team is ready to light up the pitch at the Malawi Quad Nations T20 Cup 2025 tournament, set to take place at the iconic TCA Oval in Lilongwe from July 5 to 12.
Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chief Executive Officer Abdallah Hamis confirmed to the ‘ Daily News’ yesterday that all preparations have been finalised ahead of the team’s departure for the week-long tournament, which brings together four nations -Tanzania, Bahrain, Germany and hosts Malawi.
“This thrilling tournament will be a real test of skill, speed and strategy. Our players are ready to represent the country with pride,” said Hamis.

The national squad, which departs for Malawi tomorrow, features a dynamic blend of experience and youth. Leading the team is Captain Kassim Chete, supported by standout talents such as Ajith Augustin, Ally Hafidhi, Arun Yadav, Khalidy Juma and Mukesh Maker.
Other squad members are Acrey Hugo, Ally Kimote, Dhrumit Mehta, Laksh Bakrania, who is also National Men Under 19 Captain, Mohamedi Mbaki , Raymond Emmanuel , Salum Ally and Umar Shaik. This tournament marks the first test for newly appointed Head Coach, Mugammad Nackerdien from South Africa.
His appointment two months ago is part of a broader initiative to restructure and strengthen the senior team, according to TCA Chairman Balakrishnan Sreekumar. Interestingly, Coach Nackerdien joins his son, Imran Nackerdien, who has already made his mark in Tanzanian cricket by guiding the U19 Men’s team to a historic qualification for the 2026 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup.
Imran he also recently led the national women’s team to victory at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda. Nackerdien will be assisted by experienced Tanzanian coach Riziki Kiseto in Malawi. According to Hamis, the team is well-prepared for the international showdown and is determined to perform at its best.
Tanzania will kick off its campaign on Saturday against Bahrain, followed by a match against hosts Malawi on Sunday and Germany in the first leg. The second leg resumes on July 9 against Malawi, followed by a clash with Bahrain on July 10 and concludes with a showdown against Germany.
