Tanzania marks World Bees Day in Dodoma

DODOMA: THE call to protect bees that contribute to 80 percent of all food crops was a banner of the official opening of the World Bees Day celebrations in the Tanzanian capital, Dodoma.
The Tanzanian Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, graced the celebrations that started here today, May 17,2025 at Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma.
The event aims to raise public awareness on the vital role bees play in the ecosystem and global food security.
The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Pindi Chana, made the announcement today, May 17, 2025, noting that the celebrations are in line with the United Nations General Assembly resolution that recognizes the significant contribution of bees to human life.
She pointed out that over 80 percent of all food crops depend on pollination by bees and other pollinators.
Dr. Chana further explained that despite their importance, bees remain endangered due to various human activities that threaten their habitats.

This year’s celebrations, therefore, seek to educate and mobilize Tanzanians and the global community on the need to protect bees and their environment.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Bees for Life and a Strong Economy – Let’s Protect Them”, which reflects the vision of the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, emphasizing environmental conservation and a green economy based on sustainable natural resources.
The four-day event will feature various exhibitions showcasing bees and bee products, alongside street-level bee festivals held in different neighborhoods. Additionally, a special seminar will be conducted on the bee-keeping value chain, led by local and international experts in the field.
There will also be educational tours for stakeholders to factories that process bee-related products. Moreover, free Bee Therapy services will be available to all visitors at the exhibition grounds, promoting the use of alternative medicine to strengthen immunity and improve health.
To add excitement to the celebrations, there will be unique attractions, including live wildlife such as lions, elephants, peacocks, and other animals, allowing citizens to learn more about Tanzania’s natural heritage. Dr. Chana has called upon all Tanzanians, especially residents of Dodoma and nearby regions, to turn out in large numbers and take part in this important national event.
