Tanzania lures Qatar’s Shaheen Energy to invest in the oil and gas sector

DOHA: THE Tanzanian envoy to Qatar, Habibu Awesi Mohamed, met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Faisal Al Thani of Shaheen Energy to discuss ways to expand investment opportunities in Tanzania’s oil and gas sector.
The meeting, held recently in Doha, focused on reviewing the results of a technical assessment conducted jointly by Shaheen Energy and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation. The assessment produced positive results, with Shaheen Energy expressing intentions to invest approximately 500m US dollars in Tanzania’s energy sector.
However, both parties acknowledged the existence of critical gaps in technical and commercial information that must be addressed before final investment decisions can be made. They emphasized the importance of continuing discussions to resolve outstanding challenges and ensure the project’s effective implementation.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation, improving coordination, and expediting steps toward investment decisions targeted for completion within 2026.
The Tanzanian government reiterated its readiness to support investors and maintain an enabling environment for the development of the country’s energy sector.
