Extending her compliments, Dr Samia commended the tremendous developmental milestones achieved by Kuwait in various areas, including science and technology, healthcare services and overall economic progress.

She acknowledged Kuwait’s status as one of the economically robust countries in the world, renowned as a prominent financial capital and investment hub.

Expressing her token of gratitude, the Minister for Health, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, cheered the Kuwaiti government for its contributions to the development of Tanzania’s healthcare sector, including the provision of medical equipment to hospitals in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The Minister made the remark as the guest of honour during the celebrations of Kuwait’s 63rd Independence Day and 33rd Liberation Day, held in Dar es Salaam recently, led by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Mubarak Mohammad Alsehaijan.

Ms Mwalimu highlighted Kuwait’s significant role as a partner in Tanzania’s healthcare development.

She mentioned that Kuwait has already contributed by donating anaesthesia machines to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), medical equipment to the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar, non-pneumatic infant ventilators to the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma and the construction of the Handeni Hospital in Tanga, funded by the Abdullah Al Nouri Institute of Kuwait.

Additionally, Minister Ummy stated that in 2023, Kuwait, through the Kuwait Children Heart Association, brought in specialised doctors who collaborated with experts from the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma to perform free heart surgeries for 100 underprivileged children.

“We appreciate Kuwait for its support in the healthcare sector, besides providing anesthesia machines, they have assisted with surgical equipment for children suffering from hydrocephalus, which went to the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI),” said Minister Ummy.

On his part, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Mubarak Mohammad Alsehaijan, noted that the cooperation between Kuwait and Tanzania has been growing and strengthening since 2015.

He affirmed Kuwait’s continued commitment to social, political, and economic collaboration with Tanzania.

“As we celebrate this important day, our nations rely on cooperation, starting with sports cooperation between the Kuwait Sports Authority and the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports of Tanzania,” stated Ambassador Alsehaijan.

Furthermore, Ambassador Alsehaijan added that Kuwait will continue to collaborate with Tanzania in promoting and fostering a joint working relationship for the mutual interests of both sides.

The celebrations of Kuwait’s 63rd Independence Day and 33rd Liberation Day were also attended by the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Mussa Shaib, as well as ambassadors and heads of various organisations representing their respective countries in Tanzania.
