Tanzania joins Yemen in mourning the death of former President Ali al-Beidh

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA  has joined the government and people of Yemen in mourning the death of former South Yemen President and former Vice President of Yemen, Ali Salem al-Beidh.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Said Shaib Mussa conveyed Tanzania’s condolences after signing a book of condolence at the Embassy of Yemen in Dar es Salaam.

Representing Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Ambassador Mussa said Tanzania received the news of the passing of Ali Salem al-Beidh with deep sorrow and stands in solidarity with his family during this time of grief.

Ali Salem al-Beidh, former President of South Yemen and Vice President of United Yemen, passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 86.

Known as a key figure in the 1990 unification, he later led movements for southern secession.

His death was mourned by the Presidential Leadership Council, with burial planned in Hadhramaut.
