Tanzania joins Gastech 2026, a 150-nation meeting tackling energy crisis caused by geopolitical tensions

BANGKOK: THE Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba today participated in the official opening of the Gastech 2026 International Energy Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together government leaders, energy experts, investors and other stakeholders from more than 150 countries.
Gastech 2026 is being held at a time when global energy demand continues to rise, driven by population growth and industrial expansion. At the same time, geopolitical tensions, disruptions to supply systems and changing market conditions continue to pose challenges to global energy security.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Advancing Global Energy Market Stability,” with discussions focusing on measures and solutions to strengthen energy security, resilience and access to reliable and affordable energy.
Natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), electricity, carbon-reduction technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are among the key areas being discussed at the conference as important tools for strengthening energy security, improving the flexibility of energy systems and enhancing industrial resilience.

Deputy Minister Makamba’s participation in Gastech 2026 provides Tanzania with an opportunity to promote the country’s natural gas resources and investment opportunities, while strengthening international partnerships and cooperation in the energy sector.
Gastech 2026 is expected to attract more than 50,000 energy professionals from over 150 countries and will be officially opened by Thailand’s Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul.
Tanzania’s participation in the global forum underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging its energy resources to drive investment, economic growth and sustainable development, while working with the international community to build reliable and resilient energy systems.
