Tanzania joins efforts to advance employment, social protection at the 6th AU session

WINDHOEK: TANZANIA has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing employment, social protection and inclusive development across Africa after joining the Sixth Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Specialised Technical Committee on Social Development, Labour and Employment (STC-SDLE-6) in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Tanzanian delegation is being led by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability), Dr Evelyne Munisi, at the meeting taking place from July 27 to 31.

According to information from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the high-level forum brought together ministers and senior government officials from AU member states to deliberate on key issues affecting social development, labour markets, employment creation, social protection, skills development and citizens’ welfare.

The meeting is expected to strengthen collaboration among African countries in addressing shared socio-economic challenges while promoting inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.

During the discussions, member states are exchanging experiences and identifying practical strategies to improve job opportunities, enhance social protection systems and equip citizens with skills required to drive economic transformation.

According to the ministry, Tanzania’s participation underscores the country’s continued commitment to working with other African nations in implementing the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and fostering coordinated solutions to social and economic development challenges facing the continent.
