Tanzania is honoured to host the 2026 FEASSA Games

KAKAMEGA: TANZANIA has been selected for the fifth time to host the sports competitions for primary and secondary school students from member countries of the East African Community (FEASSA) in 2026.

Speaking about the selection, the Sports Coordinator from the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), George Mbijima, said the opportunity arose due to the rotational system of hosting the games, which are held annually in different East African Community member states.

Mbijima made these remarks while addressing some Tanzanian students who participated in the 2025 FEASSA games held in Kakamega, Kenya. He was bidding farewell to the students at the sports camp located at Tarime Teachers College in Mara region before they returned to their schools to continue their studies.

Furthermore, Mbijima stated that as the host for the 2026 games, Tanzania plans to have over 1,000 participants. The goal is to increase the chances of winning and to provide more opportunities for Tanzanian athletes to gain experience competing at international events.

“Our aim is not just to increase the number of participants, but to ensure our athletes gain more experience. We want many medals and trophies to honor our country as hosts and to promote Tanzania both within and beyond its borders,” Mbijima said.

Meanwhile, the Sports Coordinator from the President’s Office – TAMISEMI, Yusuph Singo, confirmed that the athletes and teachers who participated in the FEASSA games in Kenya have returned safely.
