Tanzania invites Vietnamese investments in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, blue economy sectors
DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has invited Vietnamese investors to tap into opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, technology, communications and the blue economy as the two countries seek to expand trade and investment ties.
The call was made by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation James Millya when he opened the Tanzania-Vietnam Business Forum in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, bringing together businesspeople, investors and stakeholders from the two countries.
Speaking at the forum, Mr Millya said Tanzania is ready to work with Vietnamese companies in agriculture and agro-processing, trade, technology, infrastructure, mining, irrigation, aquaculture and other productive sectors.
He said the government is also improving strategic infrastructure, including railways, ports, electricity, industrial parks and air transport, to create a more conducive environment for business and investment between the two countries.
“We welcome investors from Vietnam to come to Tanzania and make use of the opportunities available in various areas of the economy. Tanzania is ready to work with them to promote trade and investment that benefits both sides,” he said.
Vietnamese delegation leader and Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep said Vietnam is ready to cooperate with Tanzania beyond communications, particularly in modernising agriculture through technology.
Mr Hiep said the two countries needed to develop clear implementation plans for the agreements reached to ensure that cooperation translates into practical results.
The forum provided an opportunity for institutions and companies from both countries to present investment and business opportunities in their respective sectors.
Among those showcasing opportunities were the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), Cashew Board of Tanzania, Tanganyika Instant Coffee Company (TANICA), National Irrigation Commission (NIRC), and Vietnamese companies Intimex, VinGroup and Philimex.
