Tanzania insists on peaceful use of nuclear technology at IAEA Conference

VIENNA: IN a bold statement, Tanzania is ready to tell the world of its priorities on the peaceful use of nuclear technology, and its envoy, Professor Carolyne Nombo, is already about to disclose on the endeavour in Vienna.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Carolyne Nombo, is leading the delegation of the United Republic of Tanzania to the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), taking place from September 15 to 19, 2025, in Vienna, Austria.

This annual conference brings together representatives from IAEA member states to discuss and approve various resolutions concerning cooperation in the field of nuclear technology.

Key areas of focus include its applications in health, agriculture, energy, and the environment.

In addition to official deliberations, the conference features scientific forums and technology exhibitions related to the use of nuclear technology for sustainable development.

As head of the Tanzanian delegation, Prof. Nombo is expected to deliver an official address highlighting Tanzania’s priorities in the peaceful use of nuclear technology to advance social and economic development.

Other officials attending the conference from Tanzania include: Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Minerals, John Kilangi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Athumani Kilundumya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations Offices in Vienna, Naimi S.H.
