DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has introduced a digital registration system for journalists, whose operation will be officially launched in April this year.
That was revealed by Gerson Msigwa, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and government Spokesperson during a press conference held today, March 16, 2025, at the Kwala Dry Port in the Pwani Region saying the new system will digitally register journalists.
This system is expected to improve the registration of journalists and align with technological changes in the media sector.
“By the end of this month, we will launch a system that will regulate the registration of journalists. By April, a journalist in Tanzania will no longer carry a book; they will have a digital card. When you go somewhere and say, ‘I am a journalist,’ your card will have a QR code with hidden information inside it. When the code is scanned, it will direct the person to the government website, displaying your details and confirming that you are a journalist,” he said.
