Tanzania hosts TIMUN Conference, insists on youth’s role in driving global transformation

ZANZIBAR: THE Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Ngwaru Jumanne Maghembe, has underscored the critical role of youth in driving sustainable development and positive transformation both nationally and globally through technology, diplomacy and innovation.

Dr Maghembe made the remarks today, May 18, 2026, while officiating the opening of the Tanzania International Model United Nations (TIMUN 2026) conference in Zanzibar on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

The annual international forum, organised by the Youth of United Nations Association Tanzania (YUNA), brings together young leaders, aspiring diplomats, innovators and change-makers with the aim of nurturing leadership skills and promoting global cooperation among youth in Tanzania and across Africa.

Dr Maghembe commended YUNA Tanzania for its continued efforts in empowering young people and promoting United Nations values among the youth. He urged participants to use the conference as a platform to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop solutions to challenges such as climate change, unemployment, gender equality and technological advancement.
