Tanzania holds talks with Australian firm on the progress of its gold mine project in Hanang

MANYARA: THE Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, has held talks with the Managing Director of the Australian Marvel Gold Company, Timothy Strong, where he received information on the progress of the initial stages of the gold mine project being developed in Hanang’ District, Manyara Region.

Speaking at the meeting in Dodoma, Strong said that the company is grateful to the Government of Tanzania for continuing to create an enabling environment that made it possible to make the investment a success.

He explained that after completing the initial stage of research using drone technology, the company has entered the second stage of excavation, with the first phase of the activities expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.

“Our goal is to immediately start mining activities once all procedures are successfully completed,” said Strong.

For his part, Mavunde said the government has continued to create a favourable environment and attract investment that stimulates the growth of the national economy.

Mavunde commended Marvel Gold Company for the speed of implementation of the new gold project in Manyara Region, explaining that its completion will stimulate economic and social development in Hanang’ District, Manyara Region and Tanzania as a whole.

“It is our expectation that this project will be a catalyst for development for the people of Hanang’ and Manyara Region, in parallel with increasing the contribution of the mining sector to the national economy. The government will continue to collaborate with various investors to ensure that the mining sector continues to make a significant contribution to growing the economy of Tanzania,”he  said.
