Tanzania holds 29 Burundian nationals for illegal entry

BUKOBA: THE Immigration department in Kagera Region has arrested 29 Burundian nationals for allegedly entering and residing in the country contrary to the immigration laws.

The immigrants were arrested on August 9, 2026, during a special operation conducted in various areas of Bukoba Municipality.

According to a statement from the Kagera Regional Immigration Office, the individuals were found to be residing in the country without complying with the procedures and requirements stipulated under immigration laws.

The operation was part of routine activities conducted by the Kagera Regional Immigration Office to control the entry and residence of foreigners in the country in violation of the law.

The office said such operations are aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring compliance with immigration laws and procedures.

The 29 individuals are currently being held by the relevant authorities as legal procedures continue, including steps to bring them before the court in accordance with the law.

The Immigration Office has continued to urge people entering the country to comply with immigration laws and procedures, while reaffirming its commitment to take action against those found violating the law.
