Tanzania establishes 50bn/-fund for youth involved in creative arts

ARUSHA: THE Tanzanian government has announced the establishment of a 50bn/- fund aimed at empowering young people involved in the country’s creative arts industry.
Beneficiaries of the fund will include online content creators, artists, musicians, actors, journalists, social media influencers, and other creative professionals in the arts sector.
Speaking in Arusha, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, said the fund is part of the implementation of directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, aimed at economically empowering youth through the media, arts, and creative sectors.
Makonda explained that the ministry had initially been allocated 20bn/-for the initiative. However, following discussions with CRDB Bank, the amount was increased to 50bn/-in order to expand the number of young people who will benefit from the program.

He added that the government is currently awaiting the announcement of the official launch date of the fund.
Once launched, the funds will start being disbursed to youth in the media, arts, and creative sectors to help them grow their activities and contribute more significantly to the country’s economic development.
