DAR ES SALAAM: IT will be an epic event in Arusha, where the Second United Nations’ Tourism Forum on Gastronomy will be held in April this year.

Tanzania has been honoured to host the second round as it has promoted indigenous food tourism and Arusha has been an ideal venue.
Tanzania through Arusha has been an ideal venue for showcasing Africa’s rich cultural heritage, particularly its gastronomy, beyond traditional safari tourism.
Tanzania will host the second World UN Tourism Africa Food Forum from April 23 to 25 this year in Arusha.
The presence of President Samia Suluhu Hassan will add a dimension to the success of the event which will draw over 300 participants from around the globe.
Speaking to media in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Pindi Chana highlighted Tanzania’s rich culinary heritage as a key reason for being honoured to host the forum.
The first edition of the forum was held in Zimbabwe last year.
“Tanzania was selected to host this forum due to its vast cultural heritage and diverse indigenous cuisine,” Chana stated and added: “The event is being organised in collaboration with the government, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), and the Basque Culinary Centre.”
The forum aims to showcase the strong connection between culinary culture and tourism, highlighting its role in economic and social development, cultural heritage preservation, and local economic growth.
“With over 50 percent of Tanzanians engaged in agriculture, this event presents a significant opportunity. Our citizens cultivate a variety of foods, and this recognition reflects the strong leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as well as the peace and stability of our nation,” she added.
Among the distinguished guests expected to attend are the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, tourism ministers from member countries, and representatives from the African Commission.
The conference will feature various events, including live cooking demonstrations by renowned local chefs, food and beverage tastings, and discussions on new opportunities in food tourism.
“We aim to make this a historic event that highlights the richness of Tanzania’s indigenous cuisines and their potential to boost local economies,” Chana said.
Participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss strategies, and foster creativity in promoting food tourism.
Chana urged all stakeholders in the tourism and catering sectors, as well as the general public, to actively participate in making the event a success while taking advantage of the various opportunities it offers.
