Tanzania drawn in Group B for 2026 WAFCON

RABAT: TANZANIA’S national women’s football team, Twiga Stars, have learned their group for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following the official draw held in Morocco.
Twiga Stars have been placed in Group B, where they will face tough opposition, including reigning champions South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The group’s matches will be played in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, at the Al Madina Stadium, with the tournament scheduled to take place from 17 March to 3 April 2026.
The draw has set up a challenging path for the Twiga Stars, with South Africa among the tournament favourites, and Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso both having shown strong performances in recent continental competitions.
Hosts Morocco headline Group A that also includes Algeria, Senegal, and Kenya.
Matches in this group will be held at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Defending champions Nigeria are drawn into Group C, which will be played in Casablanca at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.
The 10-time African champions will face Zambia, Egypt, and debutants Malawi in what is widely considered one of the most difficult groups.
Group D, based in Fes, features Ghana, Cameroon, Mali and debutants Cape Verde.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter-finals, with the four semi-finalists securing automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Teams eliminated at the quarter-final stage will still have a chance to qualify, as they will compete in play-off matches to determine the two African teams for the interconfederation play-offs.
Nigeria, who are the defending champions, won the last edition of WAFCON in 2024, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final
