Tanzania doubles judiciary budget to 321bn/- in 2025/26

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced that the government has increased the judiciary’s budget from 162.2bn/- in 2021 to 321bn/- in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, a 93 percent increase is aimed at enhancing the delivery of justice in the country.
Speaking in Dodoma today during the official closure of the 12th Parliament, President Samia said the budget increase is part of the government’s effort to ensure court services are efficient, effective, and of higher quality for the public.
She added that along with the budget increment, the government has increased the number of judges, magistrates, and state attorneys, with gender balance being considered in the appointments.

“I have appointed 83 new judges, including 15 for the Court of Appeal four of whom are women. For the High Court, 68 judges have been appointed, with 30 of them being women,” President Samia said.
She further noted that the government has facilitated the recruitment of 1,153 new judicial staff, including magistrates and other court personnel. According to her, the current number of female judges and magistrates is the highest in the country’s history.
President Samia added that these reforms have significantly improved the professionalism and efficiency of the judiciary. She also noted that the digital systems used in the delivery of legal services are now integrated with those of other legal institutions, helping to speed up access to justice.
