Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel.

DODOMA: In a bid to reduce the cost of kidney dialysis treatment in the country, the Tanzanian government has distributed more than 100 dialysis machines, along with the necessary reagents, to various regional referral hospitals.

This announcement was made today, April 8, 2025, in the Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, while responding to a question regarding the government’s plans to reduce the cost of dialysis services in the country.

Dr. Mollel said, in addition to distributing the machines, the government has also expanded dialysis services by establishing centers in 15 regional referral hospitals as well as in all zonal hospitals—a move aimed at increasing access to this crucial service for more citizens.

To ensure competitive pricing and consistent availability of medical supplies, Dr. Mollel added that the government plans to bring in more stakeholders and institutions involved in importing dialysis reagents, medical equipment, and related drugs. This approach is intended to prevent market dominance by a single company or institution.

Furthermore, Dr. Mollel urged the Tanzanians to enroll in the national health insurance scheme once it is officially launched, emphasizing that it is the most reliable and effective way to protect themselves from high medical expenses.

These initiatives are part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare services and ensure that essential treatments are affordable and accessible to all Tanzanians.
