Tanzania directs researchers to focus on resolving real challenges of inclusive development

DODOMA: THE Permanent Secretary of the President’s Office – Planning and Investment and Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission, Dr Tausi Kida, has urged researchers in the country to focus their studies on addressing real economic and social challenges to drive inclusive and sustainable development.

Speaking in Dodoma during the opening of a stakeholder workshop on research, Dr Kida emphasized that the government aims to ensure that policy decisions and development plans are based on professional evidence derived from high-quality and impactful research.

She explained that through the National Planning Commission, the government is preparing a special research framework designed to strengthen coordination, improve research quality, and ensure that findings are directly applied to enhance policies, increase economic productivity, and attract investment.

Dr Kida highlighted that the national research agenda focuses on key areas including good governance, economic reforms, human resource development, the environment and climate change, as well as population trends. The goal is to ensure that research provides practical solutions to the country’s pressing challenges.

She also stressed the importance of research delivering visible benefits to citizens, such as creating jobs, improving productivity, and enhancing social well-being, while encouraging collaboration between the government, universities, research institutions, and the private sector to achieve these objectives.
