Tanzania Cricket Legends celebrate four years of milestones

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Cricket Legends of Tanzania marked their fourth anniversary, celebrating a journey of camaraderie, legacy and achievements with the proposal of a new initiative, the ‘Sports for All’ programme.
Senior Group Administrator Dinesh Vaishnav spoke to the ‘Daily News’ about the group’s journey since its inception and its impact both in Tanzania and beyond. “May 25th is a day of pride and reflection,” Vaishnav said.
“On this day in 2021, our esteemed Group Lead, Kanu Rathod, founded the Cricket Legends of Tanzania—a community that has grown into a vibrant network of Living Cricket Legends from around the world, united by their love for the sport and their bond with Tanzania.”
He expressed gratitude to Rathod for his vision and dedication, stating, “Your leadership has inspired many to reconnect and honour the legacy of Tanzanian cricket. We look forward to strengthening our ties in the years ahead.”
Notable achievements over the past four years include two cricket tours in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Bagamoyo, which brought together generations of cricketers and fostered a spirit of unity and pride.
As part of the celebrations, Vaishnav announced the ‘Sports for All’ programme, aimed at engaging and supporting Living Cricket Legends in Tanzania and promoting inclusivity through sports.

This programme was originally introduced by a department of the Government of Norway nearly three decades ago and holds personal significance for Vaishnav.
He is currently in discussions with the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman, Balakrishnan Sreekumar, to explore collaboration for the programme.
“Our goal is to develop an initiative that contributes meaningfully to the well-being of senior cricketers and the wider community,” Vaishnav noted.
They also plan to engage the National Sports Council (NSC) for further support as the initiative evolves.
“The administrators of this group stand together in support of this important initiative. Let us continue this journey with passion and purpose.”
