Tanzania commits to international cooperation
BANGKOK, THAILAND: TANZANIA has reiterated its unwavering dedication to the principles of international cooperation and law, emphasising the crucial role of legal frameworks in addressing global challenges.
This was highlighted by Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, during his address at the 62nd Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.
Prof Kabudi noted that under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania remains committed to fostering mutual understanding among nations on key legal issues such as climate change, maritime law and cyberspace governance.
“Tanzania looks forward to collaborating with fellow member states on initiatives that tackle our shared challenges and opportunities, particularly in enhancing legal cooperation on pressing global issues such as climate change,” he stated.
The session culminated in the adoption of the “Krungthep Declaration,” which reaffirmed the commitment of member states to addressing global legal challenges.
It also called for the inclusion of Asian and African nations in international legal organisations, emphasising youth engagement in emerging legal issues.
On the sidelines of the AALCO session, Prof Kabudi also showcased Tanzania’s gemstone potential at the 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair.
Highlighting the country’s vast mineral wealth, he stated, “Tanzania has immense potential in the gemstone mining sector.
With government support and adequate resource allocation, we can significantly enhance the value of our minerals and improve Tanzania’s international profile.”
He stressed the need for greater backing for local investors to capitalise on Tanzania’s natural resources, which are increasingly gaining recognition in global markets.

In addition to legal discussions, Prof Kabudi and his delegation met with Thailand’s Justice Minister, Tawee Sodsong, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral legal cooperation.
The two leaders discussed justice reforms and mutual interests, aiming to deepen legal ties between the two countries. The minister also visited the Tanzanian booth at the Gems and Jewelry Fair, which was presented by Ruby International.
The booth showcased Tanzania’s prized gemstones, including rubies, sapphires and tanzanite. During his visit, Prof Kabudi engaged with Ruby International CEO and Member of Parliament for Mahenge Ulanga, Mr Salim Alaudin Hasham and emphasised the importance of supporting local gemstone investors to boost the country’s economic growth.
Tanzanian Diaspora leaders in Thailand hosted the Minister and his delegation, where discussions continued on strengthening economic and legal cooperation between Tanzania and Thailand.
The visit was a crucial step in promoting Tanzania’s legal diplomacy and showcasing its vast mineral wealth.
The Tanzanian delegation included high-level officials including Deputy Director of Prosecution, Ms. Bibiana Kileo; Director of Public Legal Services, Ms. Angela Anatory; Assistant Director of the Department of Asset Confiscation at the National Prosecutor’s Office, Ms. Agnes Hyera; and Personal Assistant to the Attorney General, Mr. Kassian Mshomba.
