Tanzania cherishes critical role of women professionals in attaining Vision 2050 goals
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, has underscored the critical role of women professionals in advancing the implementation of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, saying their contribution is indispensable in building a knowledge-based, innovative and technology-driven economy.
Speaking during the Inclusive Mwalimu Gala 2026 held in Dar es Salaam, the Deputy Minister said the event’s theme, “The Contribution of Women Professionals to the Implementation of Tanzania Development Vision 2050,” reflects the strategic role women continue to play in the country’s socio-economic transformation.
She said the Sixth Phase Government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued to make substantial investments in the education sector through policy and legal reforms, expansion of teaching and learning infrastructure, and increased integration of technology into education.
Ms Ameir said the government remains committed to promoting gender equality by increasing women’s participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), preventing gender-based violence, and strengthening the professional development of teachers and lecturers through continuous training and research.
She called upon teachers, tutors and lecturers to remain catalysts for national transformation by nurturing a generation equipped with strong values, knowledge and innovation.
“The future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth and students,” she said, urging them to make full use of the educational opportunities provided by the government to develop solutions to social and economic challenges.
Meanwhile, Special Seats Member of Parliament representing universities, Asha Feruzi, described the Inclusive Mwalimu Gala 2026 as an important platform for discussing the future of education, innovation and technology in support of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.
Ms Feruzi said stronger collaboration among stakeholders is expected to enhance research, innovation and the application of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI). She added that partnerships between universities and the private sector will help develop innovative solutions, products and services that drive a competitive and sustainable economy.
