Tanzania Bunge Golf team shine at 2024 EAC IPG

KENYA: THE 2024 East African Community (EAC) Inter Parliamentary Games (IPG) concluded yesterday in Mombasa, Kenya, with the Tanzania Bunge Golf Team delivering an impressive performance.
The team secured second and third place finishes in the Women’s and Men’s categories, respectively, showcasing remarkable progress against tough regional competition.
Despite facing strong challenges from teams representing seven East African countries, Tanzania earned notable placements in this year’s tournament, which was organized by the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the host nation, Kenya.
Led by team captain Nape Nnauye, the Men’s team claimed third place and a bronze medal with a total score of 148, demonstrating steady improvement across three rounds (R1: 45, R2: 66, R3: 37).
In the Women’s category, Tanzania finished in second place behind champions Uganda, earning a cumulative score of 153 and securing the silver medal. This achievement highlighted the team’s competitiveness at the regional level, despite several players competing in the event for the first time.
Captain Nnauye also stood out in the men’s individual performance standings, scoring 58 points over three rounds. Other team members included Hamis Kigwangala, Issa Mtemvu, Ally Kumbe and John Salute, with the latter three making their debut appearances at the event.

On the women’s side, experienced golfer Neema Mgaya delivered an exceptional performance, tying with 50 points after three rounds. She was joined by Esther Matiko and Esther Malleko, both of whom tied with 40 points. Christina Mzava, also making her first appearance, completed the team’s strong showing.
The Tanzania Bunge Golf Team, coached by professional golfer Godfrey Leverian, displayed consistent effort and significant improvement, reflecting their growing stature in the sport. This year’s success comes after the team’s absence from the competition last year due to a shortage of players required to compete in the team category.
The tournament saw participants from across East Africa, including hosts Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, EALA and Tanzania, promoting camaraderie, skill development and regional cooperation among the member countries.
