TANZANIA: President Samia has assured Botswana’s President-elect, Duma Boko, that Tanzania will continue to strengthen long-standing bilateral ties with the southern African state.

The Head of State gave Duma this assurance on Friday while congratulating the newly elected president of Botswana following his victory.

President Samia also expressed her eagerness to collaborate closely with the new president to enhance bilateral relations.

Tanzania and Botswana are both members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Following the victory, President Samia shared her message on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “To His Excellency Duma Boko, President-elect of the Republic of Botswana; on behalf of the Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I convey my heartfelt congratulations on your victory in the 2024 Botswana general election,” she stated.

Duma Boko’s party, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), has won 25 seats, according to early tallies.

She also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing president, Mokgweetsi Masisi, for his dedication and the smooth transition of power.

“I also salute His Excellency President Mokgweetsi Masisi and the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leadership for their commitment to ensuring a seamless transition,” she added.
