Tanzania allocates 400m/-for the construction of NPS offices

SONGEA: THE Tanzanian government has allocated more than 400m/-for the construction of the National Prosecutions Service (NPS) office in Namtumbo District, Ruvuma Region, as part of broader efforts to strengthen prosecution services in the country, The Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Dr Juma Homera, disclosed today, May 12, 2026.

Dr Homera made the remarks during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the office building, alongside the handover of a vehicle to the district’s NPS office. He said Namtumbo is among 21 districts nationwide that have benefited from the distribution of new vehicles aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery to citizens.

He emphasized that timely access to justice is a key pillar of national development, noting that when citizens receive justice promptly, they are better able to participate fully in productive economic activities and contribute to growth.

Dr Homera further stated that the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued to strengthen the National Prosecutions Service through infrastructure investment, including the construction of office buildings across various regions and the establishment of 118 district offices nationwide. He said the initiative aims to bring services closer to citizens and improve efficiency in the delivery of justice.

For his part, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Sylvester Mwakitalu, said the Namtumbo District Prosecutions Office was officially established in October 2025 as part of the government’s strategy to decentralize prosecution services and enhance accessibility for citizens.
