Tanzania agrees to establish ties with China in four strategic areas

CHINA: THE Tanzanian government has agreed to establish and strengthen cooperation with China’s Shandong Province in industry, mining, agriculture, and tourism.

The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, who held talks with the Director General of the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province, China, Wang Lei, said they discussed strategic issues and ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two sides.

During the discussions, the leaders focused on promoting investment between Tanzania and Shandong Province, particularly in key development sectors. Prof Mkumbo endorsed the proposals and agreements presented, including initiatives to establish and strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors such as industry, mining, agriculture, and tourism.

In addition to the meeting, Prof Mkumbo also held in-depth discussions with various investors interested in investing in Tanzania. Among them were major investors in the cement sector from Anhui Conch Cement Co., Ltd, led by Terry Chu, who have expressed interest in investing in Tanzania as their first destination in Africa.

The visit forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to attract international investment through forums and strategic engagements aimed at promoting and developing the investment sector in the country.
